PROJECT:
Haines City Police Headquarters
CLIENT:
School District of Hillsborough County
ARCHITECTURAL FIRM OF RECORD:
Rowe Architects, Incorporated
WAI PROJECT TEAM:
Larry Wilder, AIA Principal in Charge
John Thompson, AIA Project Architect
PROJECT SUMMARY:
This project includes the design of a 14,000 sf addition to an existing 10,000 sf building to house the Haines City Police Department. The existing building purchased by the City is a painted concrete block construction with minimal windows. The new construction uses similar construction materials, though the design team created an appropriate work environment for Police Department employees.
Material types and assemblies selected provide the City of Haines City an economical, durable, and aesthetically pleasing solution to the design challenge. The use of a sloped roof defining the entry orients visitors to the public access.
Interior partitions constructed primarily of metal studs and drywall allow maximum flexibility and permit the facility to respond to future program changes in a cost-effective manner. Ceilings are a mix of suspended acoustical panels, suspended drywall ceilings, and exposed structure in the existing building. Interior finishes were selected based on durability, low maintenance, function of the space, and aesthetics. The introduction of color in the interior environment was encouraged by the design team. Floor finishes respond to maintenance and usage.
A hardened structure is incorporated into the facility. This added protection shields the communications center as well as an emergency operations conference room and its power and HVAC components.
