PROJECT:
Hillsborough High School - Tampa, Florida
CLIENT:
School District of Hillsborough County
ARCHITECTURAL FIRM OF RECORD:
Wilder Architecture, Inc.
PROJECT SUMMARY:
WilderArchitecture, Inc. was commissioned to plan and design renovations for the historically significant Hillsborough High School. The facility, originally constructed in 1927, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The project is one of the most significant buildings in Florida and the "Crown Jewel" of the Hillsborough County School District. The three and one story facility is a classic example of Gothic Revival Architecture. The building is a major contributing historic resource to and anchors the south end of the Seminole Heights Historic District.
The project involves the total interior remodeling of the facility. All new technology systems: air conditioning, lighting, power, data and communication systems. The interior spaces will be restored to the original. Lay in ceilings will be removed and replaced with hard ceilings at the original height with exposed spiral duct and pendant mounted light fixtures. Floors will be restored as well, existing terrazzo and natural wood flooring will be refinished. Exterior work includes the removal of brick infill that was installed in the windows in the seventies when air conditioning was added to the school. The openings will be reopened and 604 individual windows that reflect the original design will be installed.
