D.W. Waters Career Center - Tampa , Florida

PROJECT SUMMARY:
The D. W. Waters Center project was a complete rehabilitation and interior remodeling of a 1911 high school with an addition in 1920 . The structure was the first masonry high school in Hillsborough County . The "old Jefferson High School " is know an alternative vocational high school with courses in carpentry, masonry, health sciences, business, nail technology and culinary arts for the Hillsborough County School District . Additional user groups include the Jefferson High Alumni Association, whose function is the archiving and display of artifacts relating to historic schools in Hillsborough County . A childcare suite with outdoor play area is included for students who are young mothers.
The facility is located in the heart of the Tampa Heights Historic District and is a significant contributor to the fabric of the community. Through this rehabilitation, the building will be more than architecturally significant, it will contribute to and perhaps serve as a catalyst for redevelopment of the area.
