PROJECT:
Gary Adult High School - Tampa , Florida
CLIENT:
School District of Hillsborough County
ARCHITECTURAL FIRM OF RECORD:
Wilder Architecture, Inc.
PROJECT SUMMARY:
The Gary Adult High School provides a new 29,500 GSF building for an existing adult education program. The two-story, tilt-slab concrete building houses laboratories and classrooms that are 60% to 80% the standard high school size. The compact size of the project lends itself to double loaded corridors, yielding a long and narrow building. A two-story opening in the facade indicates the main entry. Other entries for the building are smaller, single story protected coverings.
The facade is punctuated by vertical bands of rusticated concrete that visually link the windows of the first and second floors. Openings for the classrooms are contained typically within one four foot wide window that extends from floor to ceiling. The stairs and elevator are expressed on the exterior of the building as a different color and texture from the primary color and texture of the facade.
Detailing for the facility is simple and straight-forward. An
effort has been made to minimize the maintenance required by the
facility. Metals on the exterior of the building are exposed
galvanized steel, stainless steel, and anodized aluminum.
